Surrey County Council's Children, Families, Lifelong Learning and Culture Select Committee met on 17 April 2024. The meeting covered a wide range of topics including additional funding for children and families, youth work provision, adult learning, and the performance of children's homes.

Extraordinary Meeting, Council - Tuesday, 9 April 2024 10.00 am

The meeting approved the appointments of a new Chief Executive and an interim Monitoring Officer for Surrey County Council. Councillors also received apologies from absent Councillors.

Council - Tuesday, 19 March 2024 10.00 am

At this meeting of Surrey County Council, a motion was passed calling on the next government to reform local government finance, and the Council agreed to set up a Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee with Hampshire County Council and Bracknell Forest Council to scrutinise the plans for the rebuilding of Frimley Park Hospital.

Adults and Health Select Committee - Thursday, 7 March 2024 10.00 am

The Adults and Health Select Committee recommended that Adults, Wellbeing and Health Partnerships (AW&HP) produce an information booklet on Discharge to Assess, that Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust be clearer about who is leading the new hospital programme, and that the new Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee terms of reference be endorsed.

Children, Families, Lifelong Learning and Culture Select Committee - Thursday, 15 February 2024 10.00 am

The committee made a series of recommendations about alternative provision and fostering. The committee agreed to work with Family Voice Surrey to create a handbook for parents, and recommended that all parties engaged in alternative provision have a forum to discuss key issues. The committee also recommended that Surrey County Council drive forward a new Foster Carer Charter, and actively consider a series of proposals that the Surrey County Fostering Association believe would improve recruitment and retention of foster carers.
