Councillor Una O'Halloran was elected as the new leader of Islington Council. She is the first leader of the council to have been born and raised in the borough, and the first to have been a lifelong council tenant. She was elected unanimously by councillors after being proposed and seconded by Labour councillors, and welcomed by councillors from the Green party.

The meeting included announcements from the Mayor and the Leader of the Council. It then moved on to consider a petition calling for the Council to divest funds from institutions engaged in illegal occupations and crimes against humanity. The Council then approved seven motions that had been submitted by Councillors. It also approved a number of reports, including a report on the Council’s budget, and made a number of appointments.

The committee also reviewed the first quarter budget monitoring report, noting a projected overspend of £648,000 and heard an update on the council's Medium Term Financial Strategy. There was discussion about scrutinising Thames Water in a future joint meeting with the Environment, Climate Emergency and Transport Scrutiny Committee.
