limits in Formartine

Content

The Committee agreed to:

(1)
approve the commencement of the statutory procedures for the making
of “The Aberdeenshire Council (Formartine) (Amendments)
(Speed Limits) Order 2025” shown within Appendix 1 of the
report,

(2)
approve in principle the subsequent making of The Aberdeenshire
Council (Formartine) (Amendments) (Speed Limits) Order 2025 where
no valid objections are received or where any received are resolved
and withdrawn;

(3)
note the speed limits which do not meet Aberdeenshire
Council’s Speed Limits Policy, shown within Appendix 2 of the
report; and

(4)
recommended that the following speed limits be considered by
Infrastructure Services Committee:

B999 Potterton towards Plodhill
The Committee agreed to refer consideration of
this speed limit to ISC, on the grounds of safety.  The recommended limit was 40mph, as per the
current reduction, as it was felt that this stretch of road would
benefit more from a speed reduction than from road
improvements.

B999 Whitecairns
The Committee agreed to refer consideration of
this speed limit to ISC, on the grounds of safety.  It was felt that 30mph would be significantly
safer.

C31c Tarves
The Committee agreed to refer consideration of
this speed limit to ISC, on the grounds of safety.  It was felt that 30mph would be safer.  It was also highlighted that the map at Appendix 2
was not accurate as there were now houses along the stretch of
road.

Methlick
The Committee agreed to refer consideration of
these speed limits to ISC, on the grounds of safety, with a
recommendation of a 20mph limit at each stretch.  It was felt the extension to the current 20mph
zone at both ends would complete the settlement.

Oldmeldrum
The Committee agreed to refer consideration of
these speed limits to ISC on the grounds of safety.  The suggested sections on the A947 would give
consistency for speed limits within the town; further housing
developments were expected in the area; and a lot of persons
required to cross this busy road. As regards the suggested
reduction in speed limit at the Meadows, it was felt this merited
discussion by ISC to consider if the extension should be
implemented. It was noted that there had been a long debate by the
local Community Council and their input was valued.

Old Road, Balmedie
The Committee agreed to refer consideration of
this speed limit to ISC, due to the safety reasons, noting that
there were houses along the stretch and it was a main road in the
settlement.

And additional settlements not included within
Appendix 2 of the report:

Pitmedden
The Committee raised the stretch of road
southwards towards Milldale and agreed to refer consideration of
this speed limit to ISC.  Due to the
busy junction, busy coffee shop and two bus stops, it was
recommended that there be a reduction in speed limit on safety
grounds to 20mph, as an extension within the settlement
boundary.

St Katherines
The Committee raised the junction at St
Katherines on the A947 and agreed to refer consideration of this
speed limit to ISC.  It was recommended
that there be a reduction in the current speed limit of 60mph due
to local concerns around safety.

A920
The Committee raised the junction where the
A920 met the A947 and agreed to refer consideration of this speed
limit to ISC.  It was currently a 40mph
speed limit due to the road condition and it had been working
well.  It was requested that 40mph be
considered as a permanent speed at this stretch on safety
grounds.
