Whilst the siting of the new skylights does not directly impact on neighbouring properties, the material finish (Spanish slate) to the main roofplane and resultant appearance of this alternative roof material would be at odds with the traditional character of its surroundings and coupled with the large scale of the roof, it is considered that the development would introduce a non-traditional material that is not appropriate for a historic building and its location within the Pennan Conservation Area. The works would also detract from the traditional and historic character of the listed building.

Decision

Consideration of the application was deferred pending a site visit to assess the visual impact of the different roof tile options within the area.

Committee requested:

·         Further clarification, including sight of correspondence from Historic Environment Scotland outlining their position on the application.

·         That the photograph referred to by the Planner and the applicant be circulated.

·         That the Planning Service update the Enforcement Team on the progress of the current application.
