About

The Overview and Scrutiny Committee examines council decisions and activities to ensure accountability and openness for Ashford borough residents. It can review any matter affecting the borough or its inhabitants, including decisions made by the cabinet, and can recommend changes or reconsideration before implementation. The committee also reviews other organisations providing services to residents.

This is a scrutiny committee, meaning it does not make executive decisions but rather scrutinises and makes recommendations. Its work is intended to be politically impartial and is carried out by 12 councillors. Task groups may be formed for in-depth investigations into specific issues, with their findings reported back to the main committee.
