Purpose

In accordance with Part 2F of the Constitution, in relation to matters which are the responsibility of Council (subject to consultation with the Leaders of the Political Groups), the Head of Paid Service, Chief Officers and Statutory Officers may act on its behalf if the matter is urgent and it may be against the Council’s interests to delay and it is not practicable to obtain the approval of Council.

The action proposed is for the Council to un-adopt Training Ship Broadsword, Hendon Unit - Sea Training Corps for the reasons detailed in the report. The Council over many years has adopted organisations and in 2003 the Council “RESOLVED – In view of the long and cordial association between the London Borough of Barnet and Training Ship Broadsword, Hendon Unit - Sea Training Corps, particularly in connection with the Borough Remembrance Day parade, that the Council should adopt the unit.” In practice this meant that the Council sponsored a cadet and used the unit for civic events.
