Purpose

Barnet
is bidding for the London Borough of Culture in 2027 through the
Greater London Authority (GLA). This is a key part of the
Council’s aspirations to become a Borough of Fun as outlined
in Our Plan for Barnet and the Council’s emerging Culture
Strategy.
 
If successful, the Council will
receive a grant from the GLA. As part of Barnet’s bid
submission, the council must provide match funding for either the
title award or a Cultural Impact Award.
 
This report authorises the
release of that match funding to support the council’s bid
and to put culture at the heart of communities in Barnet. This
funding, along with the GLA grants, will deliver an extensive
programme of culture across Barnet.
