Purpose

Authority to award contract for emergency lighting works at Chalkhill Primary School and electrical works at Mora Primary School.

Decision

That the Director of Property and Assets:

i)             Approves the award of a contract for the emergency lighting works at Chalkhill Primary School and electrical works at Mora Primary School for a period of eight weeks for the sum of £322,439.66 to Raytell Electrical Co Ltd.

Reasons for the decision

The Council requires the provision of emergency lighting works at Chalkhill Primary School and electrical works at Mora Primary School as part of the School Asset Management Programme. The Council has a duty to undertake major projects at Community Schools, where it is the responsible body, to ensure the buildings are weather tight and provide a safe environment for education.

Alternative options considered

Alternatives to the approach for the procurement and appointment of the contractors have been considered. The specific work packages for each school site could have been tendered individually. This option was discounted as it would not offer economies of scale that are expected by grouping the works together.
