Each Director of Public Health in England is required to produce a statutory annual report on the health of their population. This year's report is titled 'Buckinghamshire’s Building Blocks: A Blueprint for Better Health & Wellbeing'.

Decision

Each year every Director of Public Health in England must produce a statutory annual report on the health of their population.

Buckinghamshire Director of Public Health Annual Report (DPHAR) 2026 focussed on the theme of the Building Blocks of Health, and these related to a range of teams and services across the Council, and partner organisations. This theme built on last year’s Annual Report entitled ‘Tomorrow’s World- health and wellbeing in Buckinghamshire in 2045’ by outlining more on how ill-health could be prevented and how to secure a healthier and more prosperous Buckinghamshire in the future.

This report aimed to reframe our understanding of health and the key factors that determine it. It explored seven different ‘Building Blocks’, how these impacted the residents of Buckinghamshire and what could be done collectively to improve the health and wellbeing of Buckinghamshire residents. 

The recommendations from the report were broad and did not only sit with Buckinghamshire Council, but required the input of several different organisations, often working together in partnership.

RESOLVED that the Director of Public Health Annual Report 2026 be noted and endorsed.
