Purpose

The company are the preferred network provider
for Northumbrian Water Limited to build a data network across the
Northeast as part of a Smart Meter roll out. The communication
network will allow meters to send regular and accurate readings to
NWL and will help detect leaks across the water network.

The licence will have safeguards for the Council to allow equipment
to be relocated if Columns need to be maintained, replaced or
removed for development.
Equipment will only be placed on columns that have no other street
furniture/signs on them.

The Council will also have the right to use surplus capacity on the
network, subject to a reduced fee, if it takes the decision to
embrace “Smart City Technology”.
