Purpose

The ground floor retail unit and upper floors
of 11/12 and 13 Horsemarket are currently vacant and marketed to
let. An application has been received from an established local
business wishing to lease and use the ground floor of the premises
as a delicatessen / sandwich shop with associated administrative
offices above. The proposed letting will enable a small business to
grow within Darlington providing additional jobs and revenue for
the council.

Decision

To grant a 5-year lease of the above premises
for use as a delicatessen / sandwich shop with associated offices.
The rent will be reviewed at the third year. There will also be an
option for the tenant to break the lease on 6 months’ notice
in the third year.

Enable business to grow and will provide additional jobs as well as
provide a revenue for the Council.

Alternative options considered

Not to let the property. This option was
considered and rejected.
