Purpose

To seek approval from the Cabinet
Member for Health and Communities to strengthen food insecurity
work across Derbyshire for one year (from 1 April 2025 to 31 March
2026)

Decision

That the Cabinet Member for Health
and Communities approves the strengthening of food insecurity work
across Derbyshire for one year (from approval date to 31 March
2026) by grant funding Foundation Derbyshire £0.100m for the
purpose of administrating food bank and community pantry grants
across Derbyshire.

Reasons for the decision

To enable food banks and community
pantries to purchase emergency supplies of food and cover other
costs to ensure provision of food to vulnerable families and
individuals during ongoing cost of living pressures.

 

Alternative options considered

Do nothing- this would mean that
Derbyshire food banks continue to struggle due to the current low
levels of donations and difficulties recruiting and retaining
volunteers, whilst experiencing high levels of demand from
vulnerable populations experiencing food insecurity.
