Purpose
To inform the
Cabinet Member of a petition received requesting the introduction
of traffic and safety measures on Main Road, Hindersitch Lane,
Coddington Lane and Carr Lane, Whatstandwell.
Decision
That the Cabinet Member:
a)
Notes the petition received; and
b)
Declines the request for the introduction of traffic and
safety measures on Main Road, Hindersitch Lane, Coddington Lane and
Carr Lane, Whatstandwell.
Reasons for the decision
Whatstandwell does not have a recorded injury collision and
or a speeding problem to address, therefore, does not meet the
criteria detailed in the Speed Management protocol for the
introduction of Traffic safety measures at this time.
Whatstandwell is included in an environmental weight
restriction, which will limit HGV through traffic and there are
also unsuitable for HGVs, white on blue signs at each end of the
Hindersitch Lane and Carr Lane.
Alternative options considered
Option 1: The introduction of a one-way traffic order on
Hindersitch Lane, Coddington Lane and Carr Lane has been
considered. This would remove two-way traffic and the likelihood of
vehicles meeting on the narrow lane. However, by removing this
conflict, vehicle speeds are likely to increase introducing a
different type of risk. Residents of the Hindersitch Lane,
Coddington Lane and Carr Lane would also face a diversion to gain
access to and from their properties. This option is not
recommended.
