Purpose
To consider an
e-petition requesting a Zebra Crossing and School Keep Clear
Markings are installed on Cross Street to provide a safe means of
crossing Cross Street outside school.
Decision
That the Cabinet Member:
a)
Declines the request for the installation of a zebra crossing
on Cross Street in Newbold, Chesterfield;
b)
Requests the Civil Parking Enforcement Team visit Cross
Street and carry out enforcement if required; and
c)
Notifies the lead petitioner accordingly.
Reasons for the decision
Cross Street would be highly unlikely to meet the strict
PV² formula required to install a zebra crossing.
The existing collision data does not support the request for
further traffic calming measures.
Alternative options considered
Option 1: The Council is currently trialling two schools for
the School Street scheme. This is where roads leading to schools
are closed off to through traffic and parents in vehicles and where
residents living in the area have a permit which enables them to
enter and park on that street during school opening and closing
times. The trial is currently taking place and the conclusions will
then be reported back to the Cabinet Member to see if the project
can be rolled out to other schools.
Option 2: The Council undertakes no further improvements to
the current highway layout on Cross Street. All existing road
markings and signs are in good condition and the existing
restrictions are enforceable by the authorities Civil Parking
Enforcement team.
