Purpose

To seek the Cabinet Member’s approval for the adoption and publication of the Environmental Sustainability Policy, attached to this report at Appendix 2.

Decision

That the Cabinet Member Approve the adoption and publication of the Environmental Sustainability Policy as set out in Appendix 2 of the report.

Reasons for the decision

To ensure that the Council has a fit-for-purpose and robust Environmental Sustainability Policy.

Alternative options considered

Option One: Do Nothing – Not approving the Environmental Sustainability Policy will mean that the Council does not have an up-to-date and fit-for-purpose policy position and commitment to championing, protecting and enhancing Derbyshire’s natural environment for the social and economic benefit of all the county’s residents, communities, and businesses. This option is not recommended.

Option Two: Approve the Policy – Approving the Environmental Sustainability Policy will mean that the Council has a clear policy position and commitment to the environmental sustainability agenda, and it will provide a clear framework for the development of the associated Environmental Sustainability Strategy. This option is recommended.
