Alternative options considered

Do Nothing

Stop City of Doncaster Council’s current drainage maintenance strategy in the Bawtry area. This means withdrawing resources normally used for flood response and ending the gully cleansing policy, which currently operates on a cyclical schedule across all major routes in the borough. Discounted as flood risk will most likely persist and worsen due to the impacts of climate change.

Do Minimum

Continue City of Doncaster Council’s existing drainage maintenance strategy in the Bawtry area. This includes maintaining resources for flood response when needed and continuing the gully cleansing policy on its usual cyclical schedule across major routes. This option is cost and resource heavy but does reduce the impact of flooding compared to the do-nothing option. However, it does not significantly increase the standard of protection (SoP) to properties, highway infrastructure and recovery time after flooding events.
