Decision

The recommendation is to award the replacement of 6 existing AANE Cabins at DSA to Tyrone Fabrication Limited and approve the funding.

Alternative options considered

Repair and replacement of the existing AANE cabins was considered, however, the existing cabins are insufficient in size to accommodate AANE rack installation while maintaining clear access for routine maintenance and allowing capacity for future equipment expansion. The constrained space may require suppliers of navigational equipment to propose non-standard designs to fit within the current footprint, which could increase procurement costs. This would be an issue if the replacement cabins were to remain the same size as the AANE racks need to be installed in all of the cabins.

The replacement cabins will have a minimum design life of 30 years. The existing cabins are at least 21 years old. Refurbishment of the existing cabins would not provide a 30-year design life and would be unlikely to meet the required operational needs."
