Decision
To commission Primary Care Doncaster Limited to deliver a targeted, community-based smoking cessation using the Smokefree Walk-In model in partnership with the Health Van until 31 March 2027. The cost of this service will be £44720.
The van will operate 2 days per week as well attend 10 welcome days, totalling 104 delivery days. The programme will provide tailored, accessible support to residents through Very Brief Advice (VBA), Swap to Stop (S2S) provision, and Carbon
Monoxide (CO) Monitoring.
Alternative options considered
Option 1 – not investing in an outreach model for stop-smoking support. Not investing in an outreach model would limit our ability to engage smokers who face barriers to accessing traditional stop smoking services. As a result, fewer smokers would be supported to quit smoking, reducing overall quit attempts and successful quit rates. This would hinder progress towards reducing smoking prevalence in Doncaster and delay achievement of local and national smokefree
ambitions. This option was therefore rejected as it would not support commitments to reducing health inequalities and improving access to smoking cessation support for priority populations.
Option 2 – procuring with another provider
Primary Care Doncaster is currently the only organisation within Doncaster that operates and can provide a Health Van service capable of delivering the proposed outreach model.
