Brit Valley Natural Flood Management Project
July 9, 2024 Cabinet (Cabinet collective) Key decision Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
An offer for Phase 1 funding has been made by the
Environment Agency to the Dorset National Landscape team to deliver a project
in the Brit Catchment (covering all or part of Bridport, Eggardon,
Beaminster and Marshwood Vale wards). We are asking Cabinet to accept this ots with installation of monitoring equipment (c£240k) by
September '24 to unlock second stage funding of c£433k to deliver a series of
leaky dams, floodplain reconnection and land use changes by March 2027.
Content
That the project be approved, and the Executive Lead for Place
enter into the funding agreement for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 via the scheme of
delegation.
Reason for the decision
Funding had been secured externally and the project delivery
would make a positive impact on the residents of Dorset.
This contributed towards Dorset Council’s Plan 2022-2024
priorities of ‘protection of our natural environment, climate and ecology’ and ‘stronger,
healthier communities’.
