About
The Standards Committee promotes high ethical standards among councillors and independent members. It oversees behaviour, advises on good practice, and investigates complaints that councillors have breached the Members' Code of Conduct. The committee can grant dispensations, allowing councillors to participate in certain votes where they might otherwise be prohibited due to a prejudicial interest. It also advises on adopting and implementing the local Code of Conduct, which governs councillor behaviour, including avoiding conflicts of interest and treating others with respect. The committee's remit is limited to actions covered by the Code of Conduct.
