The Police and Crime Committee scrutinises the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and the police and crime plan for London. It can investigate matters of importance to policing and crime reduction in Greater London, making recommendations for improvements. The Committee has the power to summon the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, and MOPAC staff to provide information and documents. It also holds confirmation hearings for the Deputy Mayor's appointment and regularly questions MOPAC and the Metropolitan Police Service in public meetings.
