Full council record
Purpose
Biological Heritage Site (BHS) is the name
given in Lancashire to non-statutory wildlife sites of at least
County significance.
Major amendments to the BHS list are agreed by the BHS Review Panel
and require authorisation as detailed in the Biological Heritage
Sites Review Process (2024).
Major amendments are those which involve changes to the extent of
BHSs in a more significant way, including the addition and deletion
of sites, and revisions to the boundaries of existing sites.
Amendments are made with reference to a published set of guidelines
http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/environment/ecology/bhs/bhscover.asp
The BHS Review is not a complete review of the site list, rather it
seeks to maintain the integrity of the list by addressing the need
for any revisions that have arisen since the preceding
review.
Changes to the Biological Heritages Sites Register agreed by the
Biological Heritage Sites Review Panel are presented at Appendix
1.
