Full council record
Purpose
The purpose of this proposal is to revoke
sections of 30 mph by virtue of street lighting for which a Traffic
Regulation Order is no longer required, to ensure consistent and
accurate descriptions for the lengths of road contained
herein.
The proposal seeks to enable the future implementation of an
alternative speed limit that better reflects the road’s
character, usage, and safety requirements. These revocations are
taking place to ensure consistency across the network and allow the
police to enforce the speed limit effectively.
There will be no changes to the restrictions or their extent on
site. Therefore, drivers will not be subject to any changes as a
result of this proposal.
Consultations
Formal consultation was carried out between 04 December-2025 until
01 January-2026 which included advertising in the local press and
notices being displayed on site. Divisional county councillors were
consulted along with the council's usual consultees and the
consultation documents posted on the council's website.
Following formal consultation no objections were received; however,
the Local Parish Councillor raised the following queries:
• Clarification and rationale of the revocation of the 30mph
Restricted Road
• Discrepancy with a 40mph Speed Limit Order signed on site as
a 30mph restriction
A response was sent to the Parish Councillor explaining the
rationale behind the revocation of the Restricted Road, explaining
this was an administrative task only.
The Councillor's observations regarding the discrepancy with the
road signs are noted, however a change to the 40mph section does
not fall within the remit of this proposal. This issue has been
passed to the relevant area traffic engineers for them to carry out
any required changes.
Content
Peter Bell, Highway Regulation Manager, on
behalf of Matt Townsend, Director of Highways and Transport,
