About

The Overview and Scrutiny Committee is responsible for overseeing the Council's Cabinet and its functions, ensuring effectiveness and accountability. It reviews and scrutinises decisions, both before and after they are made, and can ask the Cabinet to reconsider them. The committee also examines policies and services, suggests new ones, and reviews the Cabinet's performance and responses to external inspections. It plays a role in budget development and can establish task groups for in-depth reviews, excluding individual planning or licensing decisions.
