Purpose

Stowe Pool can be used for coarse fishing for roach, perch, carp, pike and tench species, and day tickets or season tickets are available from the Beacon Park Ranger Station for this purpose.  Night fishing on Stowe Pool (between dusk and dawn) is not permitted, though there are no bylaws in place so it is currently unenforceable.

For some years there have been problems with people fishing Stowe Pool at night.  This has been in the form of anti-social behaviour with those fishing also drinking and creating excess noise, as well as parking on the grass around Stowe Pool.  Occasionally there have also been problems with anti-social behaviour from people fishing during the day.

This Stowe Pool Night Fishing PSPO proposal is designed to enable the ban on night fishing to be enforced, with anyone caught fishing being served a fixed penalty notice.  It will also enable the occasional problem with people fishing and causing anti-social behaviour in the daytime to be dealt with.

The proposals have been considered by the Regulatory and Licensing Committee and recommended for approval.

Decision

The Cabinet Member for Community and Public Protection approved the new Public Space Protection Order to come into force on 29 April 2026.
