Lichfield Council Approves Gender Pay Gap Report & Pay Policy Changes
This week, the Lichfield Council held one significant meeting and postponed another. Here’s a detailed look at the key decisions made:
Employment Committee – Thursday 27 June 2024
The Employment Committee convened to discuss the Gender Pay Gap Report 2023 and proposed changes to the council's Pay Policy Statement 2024.
Gender Pay Gap Report 2023
The meeting began with a thorough discussion of the council's gender pay gap. The report, which is mandated by the Equality Act 2010 (Gender Pay Gap Information) Regulations 2017, highlights the differences in average earnings between male and female employees within the council.
Although the Council’s overall mean and median gender pay gaps remain in favour of men, it is positive that both gaps are lower in 2023 when compared with 2022.
The report was approved for publication, reflecting the council's commitment to transparency and equality in the workplace.
Pay Policy Statement 2024
The committee also reviewed proposed amendments to the Pay Policy Statement 2024. One significant change discussed was the clarification regarding the two-year pay protection period for staff redeployed due to circumstances such as ill health.
The existing policy allows for up to two years pay protection in certain circumstances – for example, when a member of staff is redeployed due to ill health. It is proposed to amend the policy to clarify that the two year period will be calculated from the date on which the employee was last of whole-time service in their substantive post (as opposed to the date on which they were redeployed).— 1.2.3 Pay Policy Statement June 2024 cov report for june 24
This change ensures that the pay protection period is calculated from the date the employee left their last permanent position, rather than the date they were redeployed. The committee approved these changes, aiming to provide clearer guidelines and support for affected staff.
Cabinet Meeting – Tuesday 25 June 2024
The scheduled Cabinet meeting was postponed. No further details were provided, and no video of the meeting was available.
