About

The Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee examines how the Council and other public services support young people in Manchester to have happy, fulfilling, and successful lives. It does not make decisions but can recommend improvements to services related to education, looked-after children, social care, early years provision, disabled children, special educational needs, and youth activities.

The committee scrutinises the work of the Directorate for Children’s and Families to ensure services meet residents' needs. It includes elected members and co-opted representatives from faith schools and parent governors, who have voting rights on education matters.
