Decision
That Cabinet:
1) NOTED the progress made since the submission of the Council’s proposal for local government reorganisation (LGR) in November 2025.
2) NOTED that the Council continued to understand a ministerial ‘minded to’ decision on LGR in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) would be taken in July 2026.
3) NOTED that following the Government’s decision, Council would be requested to establish ‘informal’ joint committee(s) to oversee the preparatory and transitional processes, and in advance of the formal establishment of any joint committees established at the point of the Structural Changes Order takes effect.
4) APPROVED the establishment of a cross-party LGR Members’ Reference Group.
