Standards Committee Reports 24% Drop in Complaints
This week saw two key meetings within the North Lincolnshire Council: the Health and Wellbeing Board on Monday, 24 June 2024, and the Standards Committee on Thursday, 27 June 2024. Below, I'll provide an overview of these meetings and delve into the details of the discussions and reports presented.
Health and Wellbeing Board

Standards Committee
The Standards Committee met on Thursday, 27 June 2024. This meeting focused on reviewing the annual report for 2023-24 and the complaints schedule for the same year. No decisions were made during this meeting, but important insights were shared regarding the conduct of councillors and the nature of complaints received.
Annual Report 2023-24
The Standards Committee Annual Report 2023-24 provides an overview of the number and types of complaints made against councillors, as well as how these complaints were resolved. Notably, there was a 24% decrease in complaints compared to the previous year.
There were a total of 17 complaints received during the year. This represents a decrease of 24% on the previous year (2022-23), when 22 complaints were received.
Complaints Schedule 2023-2024
The Complaints Schedule 2023-2024 was also reviewed. This document summarises each complaint made against councillors over the past year. Out of 17 complaints, 9 were investigated, while 8 were not. The majority of these complaints were lodged by members of the public.
The most common type of complaint related to disrespectful conduct (8 complaints), followed by misuse of position (4 complaints).
Understanding the role of the Standards Committee is crucial. This committee ensures that councillors adhere to the Code of Conduct, which outlines the expected behaviour and responsibilities of elected officials. By addressing complaints and maintaining high standards, the committee plays a vital role in upholding the integrity of the council.
