Decision

Appoval for North Lincolnshire Council enter into agreements with the Environment Agency under section 25 of the Highways Act 1980, namely (1) ‘South Bank of River Torne, Common Lane to Idle Bank, Wroot’ and (2) ‘South Bank of River Torne, Sand Lane to Wroot Road, near Candy Farm, Wroot’ , and thereafter the definitive maps and statements for the Isle of Axholme and the former West Riding of Yorkshire be modified as required under section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Reasons for the decision

In partnership with the Environment Agency, to provide the public with increased access on foot, protected in perpetuity, alongside the River Torne at Wroot over two separate lengths amounting to a distance of 2,600 metres in total and linking up with already established footpaths also beside the Torne, both in Wroot and Epworth and Belton too. The new footpaths would be added to the statutory record known as the definitive map following their creation.

Alternative options considered

The alternative option was not to seize the opportunity to create, thereby depriving the public of the enjoyment these two new footpaths would afford them and future generations.
