inequalities. 

Reasons for the decision

The NHS Health Checks service
currently has an underspend that must be allocated before April
2026. Analysis of recent uptake data shows that participation is
significantly higher among White ethnic groups, while uptake
remains comparatively low among people living in low deprivation
areas, Black Caribbean, Black African, and South Asian populations.
These groups are known to face a higher risk of cardiovascular
disease (CVD) and related conditions.
To address this inequality and improve health
outcomes, the decision has been made to invest the remaining funds
in a targeted intervention. This approach aims to increase NHS
Health Check uptake among these vulnerable populations, ensuring
that resources are directed where the need and potential impact is
greatest.
