RESOLVED
 
KEY DECISION
 

That
the Executive reviewed and approved adoption of the Air Quality
Supplementary Planning Document (AQ SPD).
 
 

Reasons for
Recommendations:
 

Production of an AQ
SPD facilitates a consistent and transparent approach to managing
air quality in new developments across North
Northamptonshire.
It is more
cost-effective to respond pro-actively to maintain and reduce air
pollution levels than to allow air pollution to
deteriorate.
North
Northamptonshire Council (NNC) does not have an air quality
management area and the adoption of this AQ SPD will assist
NNC  departments to act collectively
with respect to planned new development to ensure that air
pollution remains below legal limits.

         

Alternative Options Considered: Not to publish an AQ SPD, as the
Council is not under a legal obligation to produce an AQ SPD. This
option was not chosen because the existing EMAQN AQ SPD is
regularly referenced by Environmental Protection Officers and
provides guidance to developers in an open and transparent way on
how to reduce air pollution levels relating to new
developments.
