About

The Oldham Council is the primary decision-making body of the local authority, responsible for setting the council's budget and policy framework. It holds ultimate responsibility for key executive functions, particularly when proposed actions deviate from established policies. The Council also oversees governance structures, including the election of the Mayor and Leader, and the establishment and membership of its committees. It approves the council tax reduction scheme and adopts codes of conduct for councillors. The Council also has specific statutory duties related to elections, byelaws, and the appointment and dismissal of senior officers.
