Purpose

A Towpath Enhancement (Movement) Strategy
(TES) has been drafted in response to the Council’s manifesto
commitment to ‘improve and enhance’ the Towpath,
recognising the nationally significant asset with its unique
heritage, environment and community value.

Content

RESOLVED that the Transport and Air
Quality Committee:
 
 
i. 
Notes the DRAFT Towpath (Movement) Strategy and be invited to make
comments to be incorporated into a finalised draft;
 
ii. 
Authorises officers to undertake public engagement on DRAFT
Strategy to inform the FINAL strategy for adoption;
 
iii. 
Approve changes to the public right of way legal status to a
restricted byway to formalise existing usage of the Thames Towpath
and access routes (subject to detailed assessment & statutory
procedures, including consultation);
 
iv. 
Officers to form a Towpath Board to provide oversight of the
Towpath’s management; and
 
v. 
To report back to the committee as each aspect progresses.
