Purpose
A report on the new strategy, which takes a
place-based approach for opportunities for physical activity and
tailored interventions across the Borough.
Content
RESOLVED: That the committee,
1.
Approve the adoption of a new Leisure, Sport and Physical
Activity Strategy and action plan for Richmond upon Thames, noting
the key commitments contained within the strategy and action plan
included at Appendix A that will set the strategic direction for
investments, programming and partnerships that will benefit the
wellness of residents in the borough over the next five years and
beyond.
2.
Approve the changes to the fair pricing policy as noted at
paragraphs 3.22 to 3.25 to improve access to Council leisure
facilities for those who need them most and can least afford
it.
3.
Note the strategic needs assessment undertaken to date
gathering data and information to inform the Council’s
Leisure, Sport & Physical Activity Strategy – Richmond
Moves for a Healthier Borough.
4.
Note that the brand Richmond Moves for a Healthier Borough
has been used by Richmond Public Health since 2021. This strategy
has been developed in partnership with the Public Health team, and
all the prior work and learning underpins and will add to the
success of this hyperlocal system wide leisure strategy.
5.
Note work on potential future capital investment being
undertaken detailed in paragraphs 3.27 – 3.31 of the
report.
6.
Note the proposal to keep Hampton Youth Centre open which is
under development as detailed in paragraph 3.32 of the report.
7.
Include an aspiration in the adopted Leisure, Sport and
Physical Activity Strategy to have a health suite facility and
delegate the wording of this for inclusion in the
‘Active Environments’ section to officers.
