Purpose

Report on the review of collisions for the
20mph scheme.

RESOLVED that the Transport and Air
Quality Committee
 
 
i. 
Recognise that average speeds overall have reduced by 2.6mph across
the borough since 2018, and by 4.4mph on roads which had average
speeds of over 24mph in 2018.
 
ii. 
Recognise the increase in cycle, pedestrian and public transport
use since 2020.
 
iii. 
Recognise the reduction in total collisions since the introduction
of 20mph.
 
iv. 
Agrees to funding sources being explored to investigate the
existing top-rated collision sites, both those currently identified
and on future work programmes in addition to new sites identified
since the install of 20mph.
 
v. 
Agrees to seeking funding to review, prioritise and treat those
roads where speeds remain above 24mph as outlined within the
report.
 
vi. 
Agrees to a study being undertaken to review in greater detail
collisions involving serious collision and more vulnerable road
users, this will assess not only recorded collision data but also a
personal depiction of road risk for motorcyclists, cyclists and
pedestrians, in cooperation with the Council’s Public Health
Department.
 
vii. 
Agrees to a review of the deployment of Speed Indicator Devices, as
part of a wider strategy, to reduce the number and severity of
personal injury collisions (and speed reduction where
applicable).
