June 23, 2026 Cabinet (Cabinet collective) Key decision Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
The Cabinet will be asked for agreement to consult on the draft Transport Strategy enabling residents, businesses and stakeholders to help share its final content prior to consideration for adoption.
Decision
The Cabinet considered the draft Stockport Transport Strategy 2026-2042 that aimed to set out a long-term strategic framework for the development and prioritisation of transport across the borough and has given approval to the undertaking of a consultation on the draft Transport Strategy commencing alongside the Local Plan consultation, enabling residents, businesses and stakeholders to help shape its final content prior to consideration for adoption.
Alternative options considered
Stockport could have relied solely on the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2050 to guide the priorities of the council's transport policy, however, due to the transport specific needs of the borough’s local plan it was felt that a more Stockport specific document was required to support the delivery of development in the borough.
