Purpose

The boat would provide a more versatile, fuel-efficient and capable rescue option than the current Zodiac RIBs and would complement the jet skis by offering greater stability, improved staff wellbeing, the ability to support multiple rescues, and better performance in rougher conditions. It would also strengthen operational capability during Clacton Airshow by supporting buoy laying, reducing reliance on external contractors and improving patrol coverage, while enabling Clacton Volunteer Lifeguards to reinvest the proceeds into a more suitable watercraft, further improving local water safety.

Decision

To purchase the Avon Searider Rescue 4M boat for Beach Patrol from Clacton Volunteer Lifeguards for £4500.
The Avon Searider Rescue 4M boat is to be used for patrols and rescues on Clacton seafront, alongside providing support to Clacton Airshow.

Alternative options considered

Should LGR lead to any changes, the boat, engine and trailer can be sold again and should retain its value.
