Purpose

To approve a new Lease over Kiosk 2, Lower Promenade, Marine Parade West, Clacton-on-Sea.

Decision

(a)     To agree the principle of a new lease over Kiosk 2, Lower Promenade, Marine Parade West, Clacton-on-Sea;

(b)     To agree the terms of that new lease; and

(c)     To authorise the Corporate Director (Planning & Community) to complete that new lease on the terms and conditions agreed and on such other terms and conditions that he considers appropriate in consultation with Legal Services.

Reasons for the decision

The property is currently disused and in a poor condition. The successful proposals include a full refurbishment of the building. Its new use will provide a valuable service to the community and will help improve the appearance and vitality of the surrounding area.

Alternative options considered

To not relet the property and allow it to remain vacant.

The Council would incur all the costs of building repairs and maintenance and a business in a prime location will remain closed throughout a summer season.
