This working group focuses on council-led, system-wide actions to tackle high rates of overweight and obesity in Thurrock. It aims to facilitate elected member leadership on this issue by examining wider determinants of health, such as promoting physical activity through spatial planning and supporting a healthy food environment.
The group includes representation from the Health and Wellbeing Board, as obesity reduction is a key part of the Health & Wellbeing Strategy. It also incorporates Healthwatch to ensure community views are considered. The working group will recommend changes to the council's policy and strategy framework to support obesity reduction efforts.
