The People Overview and Scrutiny Committee scrutinises the council's plans and financial strategy concerning children's and adult social care, health, education, and wellbeing. It holds Cabinet Members and Directors accountable for service delivery in these areas.

The committee's remit includes safeguarding, children in care, early years, school effectiveness, special educational needs, adult social care commissioning, carer support, public health, and reviewing local health services under the National Health Service Act 2006. It also scrutinises the work of Thurrock's Health and Wellbeing Board.
