Purpose

To
determine the Council’s response to the government’s
agenda for local government reorganisation and to agree our
preferred model for new (unitary) local government in
Kent.

Decision

RESOLVED –

 

That the content of this report and the comments
from the Cabinet Advisory Boards and Full Council were considered
and noted.

 

That the Business Case for Local Government
Reorganisation in Kent and Medway for the three unitary authorities
(Option 3A) as set out in Appendix C to this report be approved for
submission to Government by 28 November 2025.

 

That the Leader of the Council with the Chief
Executive be given delegated authority to make any final amendments
to the submission be approved.

 
REASON FOR DECISION: To
submit proposals for Local Government Reorganisation by the
required deadline as set my Government (28 November
2025).

 

CALL-IN AND URGENCY
In
accordance with the provisions of Overview and Scrutiny Procedure
Rule 14 in Part 4 of the Constitution, the Chairman of Overview and
Scrutiny gave prior agreement that this decision was urgent and
would not be subject to call-in as delay would seriously prejudice
the Council’s or public interest.
