Purpose

Cabinet is recommended to
approve the police and council response to the recommendations set
out by members of the Citizens’ Assembly on Neighbourhood Policing.

Content

Cabinet noted and agreed
the police and council joint commitments and actions that respond
to the recommendations set out by members of the Citizens’
Assembly on the Future of Neighbourhood policing, described in full
in the action plan included as Appendix 1 to the report.

Options &
Alternatives Considered

The council and police
committed to providing a full response to the recommendations set
out in the Citizens' Assembly report to ensure we meet their
ambition of improving trust in policing and increasing feelings of
safety across our communities. This action plan was considered to
be the most effective mechanism for setting out our
response.

The council has the option of
not agreeing to the proposed joint commitment action plan, however,
this would result in there being no structured mechanism for
delivering the response to the recommendations from the Citizens'
Assembly report.
