Decision

This Council:
1.
Notes that the Government has designated 2026 as the National Year
of Reading, supported by national partners and charities to
encourage reading for pleasure and to connect people of all ages
with reading as a relevant and immediately rewarding activity.
2.
Recognises the benefits of reading for educational attainment,
wellbeing, social inclusion and economic outcomes.
3.
Acknowledges that despite the benefits stated above, reading for
pleasure is in decline across many groups.

This Council resolves to:
1.
Welcome and support the National Year of Reading and its campaign
objectives, and commits to working with Warwickshire libraries,
schools, community groups, literacy organisations, businesses and
families to promote reading across our communities.
2.
Request that the Leader, on behalf of the Council, completes the
online pledge at https://goallin.org.uk/pledge-your-support/ and
that the Council encourages all county councillors and other
Council services to do the same.
3.
Encourage a range of activities that Councillors and staff can take
part in to celebrate and promote the 'Go All In Campaign' in Warwickshire, for example by
providing an email signature to be shared, volunteering, and
promoting local reading/literacy events throughout the year.
