Purpose

This report requests approval for the writing
off of debts above £100,000 and provides information on other
debts to be written off under officer delegated authority.

Decision

Statement of Decision: The Cabinet
Member for Finance and Council Reform has approved the writing off
of debt over £100,000 as set out in Section 5 of the report,
after having taken all appropriate action and the noting of the
write-off of debts under £100,000 under officer delegated
authority.
 
Reason for Decision: The
recommendation to write-off the amounts detailed in this report is
proposed as all other avenues available to the Council for the
recovery of these debts have been exhausted, including, where
appropriate, the issue of court and distress
proceedings. Debts under £100,000 are written-off under
officer-delegated authority (Financial Regulations). Debts over
£100,000 require Cabinet Member authorisation.
