Purpose

The Tenancy Strategy sets out the types of
social tenancies (whether lifetime or for a fixed term) supported
by the council for use across Westminster. The Tenancy Policy sets
out the approach the council will take in its own social stock.

Decision

Summary of Decision: The Leader of the
Council has approved the Council’s new Tenancy Strategy and
Tenancy Policy, which represent a shift from offering and
recommending fixed term tenancies to secure lifetime tenancies for
social housing tenants in Westminster.
 
Reasons for Decision: The
Council’s Tenancy Strategy and Tenancy Policy have been
updated to reflect recent changes in the policy landscape and the
Council’s Fairer Westminster strategy, as secure lifetime
tenancies offer long term stability and help families to remain a
part of their community and feel more settled.
