Purpose

This report will explore options for the extension of the waste collection and allied services contract, which was procured as an 8 year contract, with the option for an 8 year extension. Cabinet will be asked to approve an extension to the contract.

Decision

AGREED: That cabinet noted the report and:

i)             Approve the extension of the Waste and Allied Services contract for the 8-year extension option with Serco.

ii)            That further work is undertaken to explore options for implementing a flexi plastics collection as part of the extension and that the decision to implement this collection is delegated to the Executive Director of Place in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Leisure and Performance.

iii)           Recommended that Council approves a capital budget of £7,164,127 funded by RBWM, and the appropriate virements, to deliver an “as is” service for the purchase of a fleet of waste collection vehicles which will be owned by RBWM but managed and maintained by Serco as part of the contract.
