Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on City of London and are not the council. About us
The Housing Management and Almshouses Sub (Community and Children's Services) Committee was scheduled to consider updates on the council's housing strategy, including the progress of the Year 1 action plan and the proposed plan for Years 2 and 3. The committee was also set to discuss the approval of a local lettings policy for specific areas and review fire safety and resident engagement strategies.
Housing Strategy 2024-29
The committee was scheduled to receive an update on the first year of the Housing Strategy 2024-29, detailing the progress made against its action plan. Additionally, a report was to be presented outlining the proposed action plan for Years 2 and 3 of the strategy, which would require a decision from the committee.
- Year 1 Action Plan Update: This report, titled Housing Strategy 2024-29 Year 1 Action Plan - End of Year Update, was for information and would likely detail achievements and challenges in the initial year of the strategy.
- Years 2 & 3 Action Plan: The committee was to consider the Housing Strategy 2024-29 Years 2 & 3 Action Plan for decision. This plan would set out the council's housing priorities and planned activities for the subsequent two years.
Local Lettings Policy
A key item on the agenda was the proposed approval of a local lettings policy. This policy was intended to apply to specific locations, including Bean Tree Court and Otto Close on Sydenham Hill, and also to extend an existing policy for Black Raven Court in Colpai. The report on this matter included appendices detailing the policy for Sydenham Hill1 and Black Raven Court2, as well as Equality Impact Assessments for both areas34.
Regulator of Social Housing Inspection
The committee was scheduled to review the outcome of an inspection by the Regulator of Social Housing. The report, Regulator of Social Housing Inspection - Outcome, Benchmarking and Improvement Response, was for information and would likely cover the findings of the inspection, how the council's performance compares to others, and the planned responses to address any identified areas for improvement.
Fire Safety and Resident Engagement
Two reports concerning resident safety were scheduled for discussion. The committee was to be presented with the Quarterly Fire Safety Status Report, which would provide an update on fire safety measures. Additionally, a Draft Resident Safety Engagement Strategy was to be presented for information, outlining plans for engaging with residents on safety matters.
Other Housing Matters
Several other reports were listed for information, providing updates on various aspects of housing management. These included:
- An Outstanding Action Tracker, detailing actions from previous meetings.
- An update on the Housing Out of Hours Service, including current arrangements and an improvement plan.
- A Housing Complaints Update, accompanied by data on complaints5.
- An overview of the Housing Major Works Programme 2026-36.
- A general Housing Matters Update.
Non-Public Business
The agenda also indicated that the committee would move into a private session to discuss non-public reports.
