The Appeals Committee of Cornwall Council was scheduled to consider several individual cases regarding travel assistance for pupils to attend various schools across the county. The meeting's agenda also included standard procedural items and the potential exclusion of the press and public for certain discussions.
School Transport Appeals
The primary focus of the meeting was the consideration of seven individual appeals concerning travel assistance for pupils. These appeals related to travel to the following educational institutions:
- Torpoint Community College: This item involved a request for travel assistance for a pupil attending Torpoint Community College. The report pack indicated that this item was scheduled to be discussed in detail, with multiple appendices providing supporting information.
- Illogan School (Case 1 and Case 2): Two separate appeals were scheduled for discussion concerning travel assistance for pupils attending Illogan School.
- Holsworthy Community College: The committee was set to review an appeal for travel assistance for a student travelling to Holsworthy Community College.
- Redruth School: This item concerned a request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Redruth School.
- Carclaze Community Primary School (Case 1 and Case 2): Two appeals were listed for consideration regarding travel assistance for pupils attending Carclaze Community Primary School.
The report pack outlined a detailed procedure for these appeals, which included presentations from the Transport Coordination Service and the appellant, followed by questions from the committee. The procedure also allowed for representations from the local ward member, if present, and any responsible authorities. The committee would then deliberate and make a decision, with written confirmation to be provided to the appellant within five working days.
The report pack also noted that these discussions would likely involve the disclosure of exempt information relating to individuals, and therefore, the press and public were to be considered for exclusion from the meeting for these agenda items, in accordance with the Local Government Act 1972.
