The Neighbourhoods, Environment and Climate Change Scrutiny Committee held its first meeting of the Municipal Year on Tuesday 2 June 2026. The meeting was brief, focusing on administrative matters and an overview report, before moving into a private work programming session. No significant decisions were made during the public part of the meeting.
Overview Report
The committee received an overview report from the Governance and Scrutiny Support Unit. This report included a monitor of previous recommendations, a summary of key decisions relating to the committee's remit, and the committee's work programme. The committee noted the report and agreed to incorporate discussions from previous agenda items into the work programme planning for the new municipal year. The report also included the 2025/26 End of Year Summary, which highlighted the committee's scrutiny of various environmental and climate change topics, including the Council's Climate Change Action Plan, housing retrofitting, and the Manchester City Council Power Purchase Agreement. The summary noted Manchester's achievement of being listed on the CDP Cities A list for the fourth consecutive year, demonstrating a commitment to climate leadership. It also acknowledged the significant progress made through the Clean and Green Investment programme and the positive impact of the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Renewal Fund.
The committee also noted the upcoming work programme for the new municipal year, which will include a deep dive into the 'Food for the Planet' theme within the Manchester Food Strategy.
The meeting concluded the formal part of the proceedings, with members then moving to a private session to discuss the committee's work programme for the upcoming year. The committee also took the opportunity to recognise Councillor Shilton Godwin's tenure as Chair, expressing appreciation for her dedication and commitment.
